1) I think she realized she had a problem when the bank started harassing her for the money back.
2) Luke probably liked Rebecca's witty personality and sense of style.
3) Don't we all stray away every now and again?
4) I don't know if I'd call it ironic but rather lessons learned.
5) The scarf definitely symbolizes money.
1) I believe Rebecca didn't really see she had a problem with her money situation until Suze opened her eyes for her! It was easy enough to sweep all her feelings about her money issues under the rug when no one else knew about it but when Suze saw how badly in debt she was, it was harder to hide the problem.
2) I think Rebecca's outspoken personality and lack of fear for being who she really is struck a cord with Luke. Luke is stuck in the corporate world with everyone watching him and expecting nothing but a leader whereas Rebecca is the complete opposite and does exactly as she feels without second guessing herself. Rebecca is the yang to Luke's ying.
3) Well I have read the other books as well so I won't ruin it. Let's just say if she does, we know she'll be able to get herself out of it!
4) It is ironic and could be equated to an alcoholic working AA. The most ironic part would be when she is giving genuine, constructive advice about managing money but she is unable to transfer that knowledge to her own life. I think she views her knowledge as abstract and not everyday real life advice to be followed.
5) I think the scarf symbolizes her shopping addiction. There is always something she has to have, another sale to take advantage of, another trinket to show off her stylishness. It was also the catalyst to her and Brandon's love affair, if he hadn't loaned her the money, who knows how their relationship might have turned out.
